On Monday, November 25th, 2024 at around 4:30 p.m., officers from the Sanitz police station (Rostock police headquarters) wanted to carry out a traffic stop in their local area of responsibility. When attempting to stop an Audi car, the driver did not follow the stop signals and evaded the planned traffic control by accelerating his car sharply. He fled onto the federal highway (BAB) 20 and drove towards Greifswald.

Officers from the Grimmen motorway and traffic police station and the Grimmen police station were called in to provide support and were able to locate the Audi car at Grimmen after there was no longer any visual contact with the vehicle. On the federal highway 109 between the Greifswald junction and the town of Griebenow, the vehicle was caught by the radio patrol car and the officers gave another stop signal. The car stopped briefly and then accelerated again when the officers got out and wanted to carry out the traffic stop. The driver once again significantly exceeded the permitted speed limit and partially drove on the cycle path next to the road. Shortly before Greifswald, the driver wanted to switch from the road to the cycle path again. The car had an accident and ultimately came to a stop in the ditch.

The 27-year-old German driver from the Vorpommern-Greifswald district was uninjured and there was only minor damage to property. A drug test carried out on the driver of the vehicle was positive for THC. A doctor took a blood sample from the 27-year-old, who also does not have a driving license. There was also no valid insurance cover for the car. Investigations were initiated on suspicion of prohibited motor vehicle racing, driving without a license, violating the compulsory insurance law and driving under the influence of intoxicants.
