An elderly woman who is dying is hospitalized. His two children, brother and sister, are preparing to organize the funeral and enjoy the inheritance consisting of an art gallery located at the edge of a swimming pool and full of unsold works that they define as scabs. The man, a young failed painter named Art (Michele Di Giacomo) lives alone in the family home; the woman, Chic (Linda Gennari), is an ambitious and ambitious lawyer, who left home after the death of her father and because she disagreed with her mother. (it will later be discovered that Art suspects that his sister is not completely unrelated to their parent’s death). In the house there is also a Slavic girl, Mila (Ksenija Martinovic), hired as a carer who is also an art expert. It is she who possesses the holographic letter-testament that the dying woman wrote and is now preparing to read it. Surprisingly, we discover that the heirs are not only the brothers present but also two others who had been adopted as adults: the first is Mila, the other is Rafa (Yudel Collazo), a black man who later Soon he arrives at the house to say his last goodbyes to his mother. Strong agitation and turmoil invade the souls of those who thought they were the only heirs who will now have to divide the inheritance with the one considered solely as a caregiver and with a man they have never seen before and who suddenly bursts into their lives. But what weighs most heavily is the difficult acceptance of the two non-EU citizens with whom we will have to deal for the division of the assets. The four will have to overcome mutual misunderstandings and mistrust in order to reach an agreement and this will only happen through dialogue. “The House of Risin Sun,” the song Art sings at the end, seems to indicate the outcome.
This is the theme of the new comedy by Bruno Fornasari on stage from 21 November to 8 December which addresses the topic of acceptance of the foreigner, a symptom of a society which, in contrast with hypocritically smuggled progressive ideas, proves itself practice linked to badly suppressed prejudices. Regarding the cause that causes this process of exclusion, the author, who is also a director, comments as follows: . In dealing with the theme Fornasari uses a language mixed with caustic and ironic tones, typical in his writings, also touching on points that generate a comedy with a bitter flavour.
In the course of the action there are various symbols that recall the limits of today’s society, the same family figure is represented by exposing unresolved conflicts but masked under an inauthentic form as happens, in a further metaphor, for the works of art and its reproducibility, which Mila discusses at a certain moment, wondering whether today the original work is worth more or that of a fake of the same work. The second certainly seems to be successful because it hides an innate hypocrisy behind a winning facade. Incidentally, two works that I witnessed this year come to mind in relation to the topic: “Rohtko” by the Polish Twarkowsi and “Simona, the Gangster 0f Art” by Jan Fabre. As regards the description of the “crusts” as the unsold works in the gallery are called, Rafa will describe them by going down to the stalls with Chic and identifying them among the spectators. On the other hand, the image projected at the back of the scene and which reproduces a painting by David Hockney fixed to the edge of a swimming pool is, according to Fornasari, the symbol of “a place of art overlooking a polluted sea that no one knows how to manage at its best.”
The comedy, which lasted approximately 90 minutes, ran without interruptions and made use of a good and close-knit company of artists who received enthusiastic applause from the large audience. Repeats until December 8th. The credits and information for purchasing tickets are shown at the bottom of the article.
