An experience for mother Karin, who has now taken part in her first “mother trip” ever. Karin is one of all the hockey parents who put their souls down to see their children, in Karin’s case 26-year-old Jesper and brother Filip, 22, get to play hockey at a high level.
Jesper Bratt has scored nine points (5+4) in the last five games and a total of 28 points (10+18) in 23 games. He tops the Devils’ scoring in a big way. Not bad for a player who was selected first in the sixth round, as the 162nd player overall, in the 2016 draft.
– It is good for other kids to see that it is possible to succeed even if you are not drafted in the first round, notes Karin.
Karin Bratt is not alone in the job of raising a top-class hockey player. New Jersey’s website tells of a bond between the hockey moms that showed up right away.
– It’s so much fun… when I’m with friends at home (in Sweden) you can’t sit and talk about hockey and things like that; then people think you’re boring. But here it is allowed and everyone here has experienced the same feelings when they were younger; there were good times and bad times. So this is fantastic, said Karin Bratt.
On Tuesday night, the Devils host the Nashville Predators at home in the Prudential Center. Then Jesper Bratt has to manage without his mother.
What specific piece of advice would Karin Bratt give to parents whose children are aspiring hockey players, drawing upon her experiences with Jesper and Filip’s journeys?
## From Couch to Carnival: A Journey Through Hockey Parenthood
**Host:** Welcome to World Today News insightful look into the demanding yet rewarding world of hockey parenthood. Today, we’re joined by Karin Bratt, mother of NHL stars Jesper and Filip Bratt, and Maria Thompson, a seasoned hockey mom herself and founder of the ‘Hockey Moms United’ support group. Welcome, both of you!
**Karin & Maria:** Thank you for having us.
**Host:** Karin, let’s start with you. This article highlights your recent “mother trip” to New Jersey to watch Jesper play. Can you describe what this experience has been like for you, both emotionally and practically?
**Karin:** It’s truly been an incredible experience. Seeing Jesper thrive at this level is a culmination of years of hard work and dedication – his, and ours as a family. Emotionally, it’s overwhelming with pride, but also a bit bittersweet. There’s a touch of longing for the simpler days, watching him play on local rinks. Practically, it’s demanding. Coordinating travel, finding accommodation, and navigating a new environment can be challenging, but it’s all worth it to be there for him.

**Host:** Karin, Jesper wasn’t drafted until the sixth round. His success story is an inspiring one for aspiring hockey players. What message do you hope he sends to youth players who may not be early draft picks?
**Karin:** It’s about perseverance and believing in yourself. Jesper never let the draft ranking define him. He kept working hard, honing his skills, and never gave up on his dream. His story proves that talent can bloom later, and hard work coupled with passion can truly make a difference.
**(Transition to Thematic Section 4: “Looking Forward”)**
**Host:** Looking ahead, what are your hopes and aspirations for Jesper and Filip, both on and off the ice?
**Karin:** My biggest hope is that they continue to enjoy the journey. Hockey is a demanding sport, both physically and mentally, so finding that balance and maintaining their passion is crucial. Beyond the rink, I strive for them to be good people, kind individuals who use their platform to make a positive impact in the world.
