The most human side of the disease

Much more than images and much more than stories is what Cinfa collects in a new book that is even more emotional than the previous ones. After the 2020 and 2022 editions, the pharmaceutical laboratory presents the third volume of the work The patient’s gaze, a text that compiles 20 new photographs, selected from among those presented to the contest of the same name, which attempt to convey the daily reality of people with life trajectories marked by illness and disability. Each snapshot, in its own way, shows the most human and harsh side of the disease, but also a day to day full of emotions, tenderness and beauty.

This is the case of Vega, one of the girls who illustrates this report and who observes the world through the gap in the railing of her bed in the hospital where she received treatment for leukemia; or the moment of complicity between Estefanía, undergoing treatment for breast cancer, and her little ones Raissa and Sohara, who delicately apply her makeup in an everyday gesture of love, a snapshot of which can also be seen captured in these pages; or the pain contained in Marco’s embrace of his son Gregorio, who suffered from Schinzel-Giedion Syndrome and who, against all odds, reached the age of seven.

Along with the photographs, we can read about twenty stories inspired by them from personalities from the world of art, sports, culture or Spanish gastronomy. The astronaut Sara García, the writer Ángeles Caso, the athlete Alex Roca, the actress Lola Herrera, the chef Ferran Adrià and the actor Miguel Ángel Muñoz are some of the authors who tell, from an intimate and personal point of view, the stories that are hidden behind each snapshot.

«Page by page, we have revealed the stories behind the patients and the people who care for them to make us look at it in a different, more human, more empathetic way, explains Enrique Ordieres, president of Cinfa.

From Cinfa, they invite you to read The patient’s gaze from pause and emotion. And then, to open our eyes around us with a look that goes beyond the obvious and dives into the depths of each patient, each illness, each story, each person.

Recognition

With this work, the laboratory most present in homes in Spain also aims to recognize and support Spanish patient entities, who carry out essential support work. For this reason, each image in the book is linked to a different association, chosen by the author of the photograph, and receives a donation from Cinfa. “At Cinfa, we want to express, once again, our admiration, recognition and support for all Spanish patient associations, who know they are counting on us,” adds Enrique Ordieres.?
