The Alps have, for the first time this season, put on their white coat. Due to the snowfall at the end of November 2024, the villages of Isère located on the massifs have been transformed.
While the Oisans ski resorts open in a week with the installation of the ski lifts, it is possible to (re)discover the charms of the mountain villages.

A small village with many riches
Heading towards the Oisans massif, skiers and hikers enjoy the resorts and communes of Deux Alpes and Alpe d’Huez.
However, small mountain towns retain a unique charm. This is the case of Oz en Oisans, a village of 200 inhabitants, which turns into a ski resort during the winter season.

Oz consists of 10 hamlets and a station, from 800 to 1350 m above sea level. Apart from activities linked to board sports, this Isère commune is home to a wealth of heritage and architecture.
These hamlets with names that are sometimes so enigmatic conceal many treasures, vestiges of a past and an architecture specific to Oisans: old barns, wash houses, fountains… Without forgetting the Saint-Férréol church dating from the 19th century in Oz Village and its square pyramid bell tower.

A “forgotten” station
Despite its belonging to the Alpe d’Huez area, the resort and the village of Oz are sometimes neglected by tourists.
During the 2023-2024 winter season, the problem was raised by local stakeholders. “Skiers concentrate on 15 to 20% of the area. They are all heading towards the Sarenne glacier to climb the Pic Blanc and consequently, the Oz station is forgotten,” explained Jean-Yves-Noyrey, mayor of Alpe d’Huez to news Grenoble.
