The most famous independent bookstore in Nantes is expanding. After six months of work, the Durance bookstore offers a larger space to its customers. A new staircase was created at the back of the room. It leads to the new room upstairs. It measures sixty square meters. It’s a sort of long corridor with walls filled with books. Books related to cooking and art are offered there. The space freed up on the ground floor also allows more comics to be featured. “It’s a redeployment of our shelves. It’s an opportunity to have a larger, more pleasant, bright exhibition space”explains Daniel Cousinard, director of the bookstore. Many activities were organized this Saturday on this occasion for customers.
A bigger bookstore
The Durance bookstore has existed since 1858. Director Daniel Cousinard hopes that it will remain open for a long time. This work represents an investment of 400,000 euros. “We invest in the long term”he summarizes. Customers discover this new space a month before Christmas. Crucial period for bookstores, as Delphine Ripoche, the deputy director, points out: “You should not miss this period. So, we are ready to welcome everyone.” Customers are already there and delighted to discover the expansion of the bookstore. “It’s practical and more comfortable than in the previous layout,” according to Marie, a regular at the place.
