And the most interesting thing is not only that, as a result, Trump and the Republican Party have also won majorities in Congress and the Senate, but also that the ranks of the that society that were traditionally considered Democratic voters – such as workers, voted for Trump. Latin and even women who were seen as Harris’ safe supporters on the abortion issue.

Trump’s first nomination shows that he learned from the first period of his presidency, when the country’s administrative apparatus and the traditional Republicans he invited to his team did not allow him to implement his ideas . Now, with Pompeo and Haley out of the administration and building loyalists, it’s clear he won’t make that mistake again. Furthermore, the current options may indicate that we are in for a very interesting and stormy period where the existing system will be undermined and the priorities will change dramatically.

First of all, the attitude towards renewable energy sources will certainly change, and priority will be given to traditional ones – fossil. This means that the US will not support the climate neutrality, sustainability, etc. that the Europeans are now so fond of. And here one of the main problems in the relationship between the US and Europe could arise. Oil prices will not be allowed to be high, but not so low that it is no longer profitable for US oil producers.

Second, the nomination of Kennedy, who is staunchly anti-vaccine, to the post of health secretary is likely to change the traditional strong lobbying of the pharmaceutical industry. Therefore, it will be interesting to look at the conflicts in this area, especially seeing the great influence of the pharmaceutical industry in Europe, where there is a desire to apply compulsory vaccination.

Third, the appointment of businessman and innovator Elon Musk to a position where he will be responsible for reducing public administration and bureaucracy, reducing costs, may have the greatest long-term consequences. The feeling that public administration is not working for the public is strong not only in the US, but also in Europe. Furthermore, it is becoming difficult to explain to the public why centuries ago with low technology it was possible to implement large projects in the time we spend on papers today.

Historically, the traditional bureaucracy was destroyed during a revolution (in fact, it should be added that not always by creating a better and more efficient system in its place). If Trump and Musk succeed without a revolution, it will not only satisfy public sentiment, but more importantly – increase US competitiveness.

Therefore, it is clear that the second coming of Trump will be different and will be very focused on increasing the competitiveness of the United States and implementing the wishes of the majority of the public (it is still it remains to be seen whether all Trump candidates will be approved in Congress and whether there will be an internal fight in the Republican Party). It is also clear that sooner or later these trends will also come to Europe and Latvia, which must start thinking about how to increase competitiveness in global markets and not of the other Holy Roman Empire in its period of decline.

If these issues directly or indirectly affect Europe and us in the long term, Trump’s security and defense policy will begin to affect us from the first day the new president takes office. And here, most likely, there will be big changes. But I will write about it separately.
