First lens for Canon RF coming soon?

Samyang will soon bring two new AF lenses onto the market, one of which, surprisingly, will have a Canon RF connection.

Two new lenses from Samyang

After the big Sony presentation that gave us the new A1 II and the FE 28-70mm f/2.0 GM a few days ago, we had actually already made new announcements for 2024. But now it looks like Samyang is currently preparing to launch two new lenses. Information has leaked several times in the last few days, and the two lenses have already been spotted in the first pictures.

Samyang AF 35mm f/1.4 P FE

The first lens is this Samyang AF 35mm f/1.4 P FE. This is intended to retire the existing Samyang AF 35mm f/1.4 FE for Sony E-Mount and appears to be significantly lighter and more compact. The first pictures show a weight of 470 grams, while the old version weighed 659 grams. The dimensions should also be reduced a little, the length will probably be 12 cm and no longer 13.5 cm. When it comes to the closest focusing distance, we are talking about 30 cm.

Here are the leaked images of the Samyang AF 35mm f/1.4 P FE:

Samyang AF 12mm f/2 RF-S

Things get much more exciting with the second innovation, which is… Samyang AF 12mm f/2 RF-S should act. This lens already exists in versions for Sony E-Mount and Fuji Has autofocus.

We remember: If you want to bring an RF lens with autofocus onto the market as a third-party manufacturer, you need permission from. Canon has previously granted this permission to Sigma and Tamron, but only for the production of RF-S lenses (i.e. lenses for APS-C cameras). Another manufacturer, Samyang, appears to be joining the company shortly.

The Samyang AF 12mm f/2 RF-S has also already been spotted in the first pictures. The box in the background, as well as the lens itself, confirms that it is an RF-S lens:

If you really think about it, the 12mm f/2 RF-S wouldn’t be Samyang’s first autofocus lens for Canon RF. A few years ago, the manufacturer briefly offered an 85mm f/1.4 AF for Canon’s full-frame cameras, but it then disappeared from the market. As with Viltrox, the reason for this may have been legal disputes with Canon.
