Kanye West has been sued by a woman who claims he sexually assaulted her while filming a music video in 2010. The woman, a model named Jenifer “Jenn” An, filed her lawsuit today (November 22 ) in federal court in New York. She is suing West and her co-defendants Universal Music Group and Stink Digital USA LLC for violating New York’s Gender-Based Violence Protection Act.
In her complaint, An, a former candidate for America’s Next Top Modelsays she was chosen for the music video for La Roux and Kanye West’s “In for the Kill” remix, filmed at New York’s Chelsea Hotel in September 2010. She says West selected her from a group of actresses and models, choosing to film a scene with her because she is Asian.
After choosing An, according to the complaint, West asked the camera crew to focus a camera on her face and hands while he allegedly strangled her, “choking her.” [her] face with both hands”, “shoved several fingers down her throat, pushed them in and out continuously and gagged her (which [An] lasted more than a minute) to imitate forced oral sex and shouted, “This is art. In the lawsuit, An criticizes Universal Music Group for failing to “implement or enforce a code of conduct.” She also claims that the label “knew or should have known that [West] was capable of sexually assaulting [her]given his publicly documented history of misogynistic behavior, but he has unreasonably failed to end his behavior.
When contacted by Zimbalam, Jesse S. Weinstein, An’s attorney, said, “We are honored and privileged to represent Ms. An, who has demonstrated great courage in speaking out against some of the most serious men and entities most powerful in the entertainment industry. . Everyone’s voice is important, and West cannot escape responsibility because of his success and notoriety.”
West was recently sued by a former aide for alleged sexual abuse. The rapper has not publicly acknowledged the allegations or the woman’s lawsuit.
