A sum between 500 and 700 euros to have the documents and obtain international protection. A little game on the skin of illegal foreigners, who would do anything to settle in Italy. This was discovered by the Ancona Flying Squad, coordinated by the deputy prosecutor Irene Bilotta. The police carried out a dozen searches on as many suspects for aiding and abetting the stay of illegal foreigners in Italy. Among the suspects stands out the figure of a 45-year-old lawyer from the Ancona bar, but resident in Cingoli.
The lawyer underwent two searches: one in his office in the center of Ancona and the other at home. The Mobile men would have found important investigative findings. In particular, a sheet showing a series of figures which, according to the prosecution, correspond to the bribes paid by foreigners to aspire to have their position regulated.
The investigations started from an official of the immigration office in Ancona, who became suspicious of the declaration of hospitality of a Bangladeshi in favor of a foreigner: it was discovered that there were no guests at the Bangladeshi’s home. At that point the police began to investigate, also alerted by the passing of foreigners coming from all over Italy to the Ancona Police Headquarters. All with the same request: declaration of hospitality. This is a prelude to the application for international protection which, if successful, leads to the temporary issuance of a residence permit.
According to the investigators, the lawyer helped certify these positions, preparing false documentation and accompanying the foreigners themselves to the police station. This behind the payment of amounts ranging from 500 to 700 euros each. The true deus ex machina of the operation would have been a Tunisian woman, the partner of a man living in the province of Ancona. She would have been the one to recruit compliant foreigners, that is, those who would have to falsely certify that an immigrant was their guest. The police also searched the house of the Tunisian woman and her partner in Milan, while in Ancona they proceeded with other checks. In Milan, around 80 thousand euros in cash were found in a safe, divided into bands with the wording “Ospe”, which is believed to refer to hospitality. The lawyer was searched in the presence of the president of the Ancona Bar Association, as required by law.
