ECC Ediciones presents a comprehensive volume that brings together the complete saga in which the Anti-Life Equation kills most of the heroes: DCSos
Tom Taylor is one of the fittest screenwriters today, having somehow become the heir to Mark Millar as far as mainstream superhero comics are concerned. Your approaches out of the box They are what have led him to come up with some of the most original and surprising comics from the two major American publishers in recent years. Now ECC Editions presents us, in a huge single volume, the complete saga of one of his latest commercial successes: DCSos.
The Anti-Life Equation, the silent enemy
The Anti-Life Equation in it DC Universe It is basically the ultimate weapon to control all beings with free will. It is a mathematical formula that, when understood or used by someone, can manipulate the minds of others, eliminating their will and turning them into obedient slaves. And who is obsessed with her? Darkseidthe great villain, because with it he can subdue the entire universe. In short, it is like the universal remote control for minds, but with a dark and philosophical touch: if life is freedom, anti-life is total slavery. Terrible, isn’t it?
Well now we have to imagine that, due to a series of circumstances and bad calculations, its effect is unleashed on Earth, turning the infected into zombies. And all because Darkseid, in his last attempt at evil, uses Cyborg to house a mother box that ends up giving him control over this diabolical power. But things don’t end well Apokolips not even for the Earth. That’s where the nightmare begins…
The freedom that the fact of narrating a story outside of continuity, a usual source of comic gems in DC Comicsoffers us a large number of situations that normally could not occur, such as the premature death of authentic sacred cows. And just look at the cover of the volume to know that in the Batfamily There are going to be significant losses…
In the end this is a kind of deceite version of Marvel Zombies in which Taylor makes characters shine that usually do not receive the focus in big events, with the peculiarity (in regards to the main event) of having a broken Lois Lane as narrator of the events. In short, DCSos is a little popcorn treasure, with all the good and all the bad that it has.
Dying of success
The main series was a best-seller at the time, which inevitably leads us to the publication of multiple spin-offs to milk the cow well while it still has milk inside. And this edition includes absolutely all of them.
In DCsos: Hope at the end of the world We find probably the weakest story in the volume, where we see Superman already Wonder Woman leading a group that fights to keep things on Earth as peaceful as possible. Mister Miracle, Big Barda, Constantine, Blue Beetle, Booster Gold y Master Terrific will be the protagonists of A Good Day to Diethus starting a new branch in history that will have its repercussions.
Con DCS: Immortals we have Capucha Roja, Deathstroke, Cassandra Cain, the Destroyer y Jim Gordon trying to save those who still need to be saved on Earth in an adventure that succeeds in surprising (be careful with the Shazam Family) but it does not do so when it comes to entertaining due to its irregular rhythm. and in DCsos: Dead Planet We are set 5 years after the initial tragedy to see a new incarnation of the Justice League trying to recover hope for the human race, converging with what was seen in the Constantine plot.
The last chapter of this saga arrives in DCsos: War of the Undead Godswhere the stakes are raised and the scope of the action becomes universal. It is inevitable to think that the beginning of this epic zombie It had a very different tone than what it ended up becoming over time, but even so this closure fits very well and puts an elegant end to the story.
An edition to die for
ECC Editions presents this tomo in cardboard format. The recommended retail price is 72 € and went on sale in October 2024. The slightly reduced size does not prevent you from enjoying reading this story, although the light weight of the pages is something that could be improved, although it is understood that for a comprehensive edition like this there is no other solution.
Despite its monstrous thickness, this volume is really manageable and easy to read, without fear of detaching the volume when opening it, as a prelude to its destruction. The truth is that, for readers who are not too demanding in terms of page size, it is the ideal solution in terms of quality/price ratio if you want to have the entire series.
The volume contains 912 color pages and includes the translation of the American edition of: DCeased nos. 1-6, DCeased: A Good Day to Die, DCeased: Unkillables nos. 1-3, DCeased: Hope at World’s End Digital Chapters nos. 1-15, DCeased: Dead Planet nos. 1-7 and DCeased: War of the Undead Gods nos. 1-8. In addition, a final section with alternative covers is also included. The inclusion of the covers of each issue and the price of the volume is also appreciated, since the relationship between this and the number of pages in the volume is not bad at all.
