This is what Tomas Plekanec does in Montreal

There is currently a familiar face in the Montreal Canadiens entourage.

Last Saturday, former Habs forward Tomas Plekanec was introduced to the Bell Center crowd during the duel against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The 42-year-old Czech, however, remained in the Quebec metropolis and was present at all the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge training sessions in Brossard this week.

In his Friday segment on the show JiCTVA Sports network hockey expert Renaud Lavoie explained why Plekanec was an attentive spectator of the work that Martin St-Louis did with his players.

“He is an assistant coach in his country. He spent a lot of time watching practices and taking notes on training techniques.”

It also seems that St-Louis is quite innovative in the way it prepares its troops. See Renaud Lavoie’s explanation in the main video.

Since 2023, Plekanec has been an assistant behind the bench of the Czech national team. He was notably on duty during the last Hockey World Championship.

The former center was a third-round pick by the Canadiens in the 2001 draft. He played 984 of the 1,001 games in his career in a CH uniform.

**Do you think Plekanec’s presence will primarily benefit the Canadiens players⁢ through mentorship and on-ice knowledge sharing, or could his observations lead to ‍him taking on a more formalized coaching role with the team in the future?**
