Heating allowance: When the application is rejected –

Thousands have been submitted since last Wednesday, when it opened the online platformthe applications for the heating allowance.

This year for the heating allowance there is a significant difference compared to last year as it is possible to choose the way in which one will be heated when completing the application and to be subsidized accordingly.

The options for the heating allowance

Thus, in the same application for the heating subsidy, the interested party will see that options appear both to state that they want to be subsidized for heating oil, lighting oil (blue kerosene), natural gas, LPG, firewood or biomass ( pellets) as well as for electricity.

The ratio of applications for electricity in relation to other fuels is approximately 1 to 3, while there are thousands of applications for the heating allowance that are rejected for various reasons which are indicated in the final response of the Independent Public Revenue Authority once the application process is completed .

Step 1

Heating allowance: When the application is rejected

Step 2

The beneficiaries

In total, the number of beneficiaries, according to the calculations of the Ministry of Finance, amounts to approximately 1,300,000 households, while for the heating allowance it is estimated that the beneficiaries are 1,200,000 on the condition that they will not also claim the heating allowance concerning oil, natural gas, etc.

OT presents in pictures and based on real data the step-by-step process of submitting the application for the heating allowance and points out all those points that interested parties must pay attention to in order not to have their application rejected and, most importantly, to receive the allowance they are entitled to for the fuel they will use to keep warm.

Step 3

The deadline for the heating allowance

The deadline for submitting the application for the heating allowance, whether someone has already purchased the fuel they will use or is going to purchase it in the near future, is Friday, December 6.

After this date and as long as the Ministry of Finance does not decide to grant an extension, no application will be accepted even if someone is actually entitled to the heating allowance.

Step 4

The entrance to MyHeating

In order to submit an application for the heating allowance, it is enough to go to the main website of the Independent Public Revenue Authority (www.aade.gr) and select the MyHeating application.

The process from then on is quite simple but requires special attention to the information that will be entered. Taxisnet passwords (the same ones used to submit tax returns) are first requested, followed by a few confirmation clicks. The first information that the application requests after entering the codes is whether the residence belongs to an apartment building or to a multi-dwelling building. If it does not belong, the confirmation box will remain empty.

Step 5

The type of heating

Then, during the application for the heating allowance, one should choose the type of fuel they want to heat with and for which they will be subsidized. It is very important that he chooses the right fuel or he may either be subsidized for much less or not at all if he does not qualify.

Step 6

The power supply number

Immediately below is the box where the electricity supply number of the 1st residence for which the subsidy will be requested must be entered. The beneficiary must enter the first 9 digits as they appear on the electricity bill and then declare the square footage of the residence as stated on the tax return and on the E9 form. Attention, the provision number should exclusively refer to residence. Anything else will lead to rejection of the application.

As soon as the first 9 digits of the provision number are filled in, the home address and the town or city where the property is located will automatically appear.

Step 7

The property

As soon as the beneficiary establishes that all these details are correct, he/she proceeds to fill in the following codes requested by the platform that have to do with whether the property is leased or provided free of charge. In any case, the tax registration number of the lessor or the person who granted the property should be indicated.

Beneficiary’s email and phone number

After this process is completed, we reach the last details that the application asks to be filled in to complete the application, and they are none other than the beneficiary’s personal email, home landline and mobile phone. This is since it is not stated above that the IBAN number of the bank account must be declared on the AADE platform. If it has already been declared, then the citizen who will submit the application does not need to do anything else except to fill in the above last information requested by the application. Upon completion of the process, he presses the button to submit the application for the heating allowance and the result is immediately displayed to him.

Step 8

When is the application accepted and when is it rejected?

If the application for the heating allowance has been accepted, there will be a complete picture, otherwise if it is rejected, the answer will also explain the reason. The most common reason for rejection is income and asset criteria and secondarily if the taxpayer owns more than 2 vehicles or falls under luxury living tax.

Step 9

The first installment

The steps presented by the OT show all the procedures in detail and, most importantly, the points that the applicant must pay attention to in order not to have his application rejected for procedural reasons.

The first installment of the allowance will be paid by 23 December 2024 as follows:

  1. Old beneficiaries will receive 60% of the heating allowance they received during the 2023-2024 winter season and 100% of the allowance that households used for electricity which must not exceed 60% of the total amount received they are eligible this year with a minimum amount of 80 euros.
  2. The new beneficiaries will receive 50% of the amount they are entitled to with a minimum amount of 80 euros.

The remaining amount of the heating allowance will be paid:

  • Until May 30, 2025 for purchases related to consumption from October 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025 and whose documents have been issued until April 15, 2025 and provided that the required information is entered until April 30, 2025.
  • Until July 30, 2025 for natural gas for purchases related to consumption from October 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025 and whose documents have been issued until June 30, 2025 and provided that the required information is entered until July 15, 2025.

Attention: Each beneficiary is entitled to a subsidy for only one type of heating fuel or only thermal energy through district heating or only electricity.

Step 10

The markets for heating fuel

The heating allowance is granted on the condition that the beneficiary makes purchases from October 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025, and especially for heating oil from October 15, 2024, the date on which its availability begins. Exceptionally, for firewood and biomass (pellets), the allowance is granted on the condition that purchases have been made from 1 June 2024 to 31 March 2025. Especially for purchases of heating oil, the price is set at 1.2 euro per liter.

Step 11

Income and asset criteria

  • Income: Their annual total family income, real and presumed, up to 16,000 euros for an unmarried debtor or a widowed or separated debtor and 24,000 euros for a married debtor or married couples or parties to a cohabitation agreement who submit a separate tax return or married couples who submit a tax return statement or the natural persons who have entered into a cohabitation agreement and have submitted joint tax return without children, which is increased by 5,000 euros for each child. For a single-parent family, the income is up to 24,000 euros, with an additional 5,000 euros for each child.
  • Real Estate: The total value of the real estate must not exceed 200,000 euros for singles, and 300,000 euros for married or cohabiting parties and single-parent families.
