Manchester City Fails to Block New Premier League Sponsorship Rules: 16 Clubs Vote in Favor

Manchester City’s attempts to prevent changes to the sponsorship rules in the English Premier League have failed.

British news agency (PA Media) said 16 clubs voted in favor of the rules, which were imposed on the competition due to a legal challenge by Manchester City earlier this year.

These rules stipulate that commercial contracts between clubs and sponsorship contracts related to the owners must be concluded at fair market value, and supporters of these rules believe that this ‘ to prevent rich clubs from overvaluing the contracts.

Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United, as well as Manchester City, asked to suspend the implementation of these rules, but Omar Berrada, who was the executive director of Manchester City and currently works as The head of Manchester United, as one of those who spoke in favor of implementing the rules today, Friday, at a meeting of clubs in central London.

Several reports spoke of Chelsea’s support for Manchester City in its position on the rules, but club adviser James Bonnington joined Barrada in defending the changes at the meeting.

Last month, an arbitration panel ruled that the rules were illegal, for several reasons, including the process of eliminating loans from club shareholders.
