Snow in Paris, skiing in Montmartre. Transport chaos in the region due to heavy snowfall – Photo – Photo 1 of 16

Punctually announced by the weather forecast, the snow has arrived in France, with the “Caetano” disturbance which hit the north from the early hours of the morning – Brittany and Normandy above all – to soon arrive also in the Ile-de-France and Paris . The capital is under heavy snow, the streets outside the center are already whitewashed.
From early morning, Brittany was completely covered in snow, while there was severe disruption on the roads in Normandy too. The cold wave is expected for today and tomorrow, temperatures are expected to rise from the weekend.
The snow that is falling abundantly in Paris makes Montmartre, the famous neighborhood built vertically on the hill of the same name in the northern part of the French capital, even more magical.
In the area children play snowballs in the middle of streets and squares with virtually no cars and the more daring have climbed to the top of the Sacred Heart to launch themselves on skis and sleds on the steps under the Basilica, which this afternoon have been transformed into an improvised ski slope skiing.

There is also transport chaos in Paris for the snowfall. In the early afternoon there were 300 kilometers of cars lined up in the streets around the capital, while many trains were delayed, especially from Montparnasse station, and several planes were nailed to the ground by the snowstorm.
Currently, no planes take off at Charles de Gaulle airport. The airport’s services are expected to resume in the afternoon, after an anti-icing operation on the runways has been completed. The Minister of Ecological Transition, Energy, Climate and Risk Prevention, together with the Minister with responsibility for Energy, brought together sector managers this afternoon to take stock of the situation.
Airlines in Paris have been asked to cancel 10% of their flights following snowfall which made it necessary for snow workers to intervene on the runways of Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport. Numerous delays are expected throughout the rest of the day, while emergency teams continue to clear snow from the runways. In total, 266 snowplowing and anti-icing vehicles were activated in the main Parisian airport. The passage of the “Caetano” disturbance over the north of the country was more intense and longer than expected by Météo France, which in the evening placed 56 departments on “orange” watch for snow and ice. There are 235,000 homes without electricity due to bad weather, almost all in Brittany, Normandy and the Loire. In the evening, road conditions worsened and traffic jams increased. In particular, the situation on the A84 motorway in the Manica department is worrying, where motorists were blocked for several hours.
