Kai Grünitz, head of research and development at Volkswagen, in an interview for A vehicle during the current auto show in Los Angeles, he revealed some interesting news that we will see from the car company in the coming years.

We can start from the Munich Motor Show in September next year, where the brand should present the concept of a small electric model ID 2 SUV, i.e. apparently a crossover derived from the concept of a car small electric ID 2all.

The concept should be the second model built on the MEB Entry platform, the first being the production version of the ID 2 model, which, according to Grünitz, should be launched at late 2025 or early 2026.

From 2026, a big change will come to electric cars from the ID family. The cars should have a new look, inspired by the ID 2all concept, which should better reflect the brand’s roots. It should have a friendlier feel and be inspired by iconic historical models. The new models should also offer better performance, lower battery prices and new features.

The automaker also continues to work on the development of the new SSP (Scalable Systems Platform), and its development should be helped by being deeper. collaboration with the Rivian brandfrom which Volkswagen should learn in terms of electrical architecture and software.

However, the arrival of the Euro 7 emission standard in the coming years will mean that the brand’s offer will become thinner. It is not clear which models or engines will disappear from the offer, but more hybrid power units will appear. Grünitz also confirmed that the Polo model, which is awaiting renewal at the time, will not disappear from the offer.
