In the latest episode of The Smartest Hour Ter World, Nele Somers is a guest with Larissa in the studio, where she has a candid conversation about her life, her beliefs and her participation in the popular game show De Slimste Mens. Nele occasionally goes to support Antwerp with her husband and son. She prefers to sit in a box because otherwise there are a lot of people. When she sits in a box, she finds it strange that you get champagne and a waffle there. A crazy combination. But every now and then Nele feels like it.
“Daphne is a really strong candidate. She answers before the question is asked”
“I do know Erik. Not that he comes to eat with us every week”
Erik called Nele to participate in De Slimste Mens. The two already know each other as her husband’s family and Erik’s family have been friends for a long time.
“I want to move a stone. That’s the miss in me. Things can be better for women in society. I experience something misogynistic every day.”
Nele disappeared from the screen for a while, but that was not by accident. She has a mission: to make things better for women in society. She has already been able to do that a little bit, for example by starting her office. But her work is far from done because “I still receive misogynistic comments every day.”
“You can do me no greater favor than to let me study”
When asked whether Nele has prepared herself for her participation, Nele answers yes. She really enjoys studying and she did that with pleasure for De Slimste Mens.
Given Nele’s experiences with online misogyny, what steps do you think platforms like social media should take to create a safer and more inclusive space for women to express themselves?
