Mamooka then asked me if I was showing my love in the first film: Lal Jose
Lal Jose started his film career as Kamal’s assistant director. Written by Srinivasan, Oru Maravathur Kanav is Lal Jose’s directorial debut. Mammootty played the lead role in this 1998 film. Unni, Biju Menon, Mohini, Srinivasan, Nedumudi Venu and Kalabhavan Mani played other important characters in Oru Maravathur Kanav.
Mammootty appeared as Chandy in the film. Mammootty presented Chandy in a different way than seen till then. But Lal Jose says he found it difficult to convince Mammootty for that route. Lal Jose said that when Mammootty asked him to cut his hair short, it would not be possible.
Lal Jose said that even when he said that it would be better to present the character that way, he did not agree to it. Lal Jose said that he tried to convince him, but Mammootty refused to listen to him and asked him if he was interested in the first film.
Lal Jose said that even when I saw him two days before the shoot, he had not cut his hair and reminded me again. Lal Jose said that Mammootty was not listening to what is the difference between this film and the films being made now unless the situation changes.
Lal Jose said that he was shocked when he came on the day of the pooja and that he cut shorter than he expected. Lal Jose said these are the reasons why he feels respect for Mammootty. Lal Jose was talking to Cineplus Entertainments.
“Maravathur told the story of Kanav to Mammooka and Pulli liked it. But the elder did not like that he had to get a short haircut for the character. Mamooka said, ‘I can’t cut any hair’. Even though I said that it is only right to show that character in such a scene, Pulli was not convinced. Pulli also asked if he shows his love in the first film itself.
Even two days before the shoot I was reminded of the haircut. The spot didn’t come close. I was surprised when Mamooka came on Puja day. The freckle cut was shorter than I thought it would be. That was the eye after a week of shaving. He came to me and said, “Are you at peace now? You didn’t let me go bald?” asked that. That alone is why I feel respect for Mamooka,’ said Lal Jose.
