Apple with sales slump in China – Huawei is growing

Beijing (Reuters) – Apple sold significantly fewer iPhones on the Chinese holiday “Singles’ Day” than in the previous year.

Under the pressure of growing competition, sales fell by a double-digit percentage, according to a survey published on Wednesday by the research company Counterpoint. “To benefit from one of the biggest shopping events of the year, the major Chinese manufacturers, with the exception of Huawei, have launched their new top models for this festival.” Last year only Xiaomi presented new products.

Due to the weakening Chinese economy, smartphone sales have also shrunk overall, Counterpoint also announced. The minus amounts to nine percent. Only Apple’s main Chinese competitor Huawei, which plans to present its smartphone flagship “Mate 70” next week, was able to buck this trend. Thanks to price reductions for the “Pura 70” and “Mate 60” models, sales increased by seven percent.
