The Hauts-de-Seine region is ready to face snow and ice – Defense-92.fr

The cold is setting in slowly but surely in the Paris area, and the first snowflakes are expected there from this Thursday, November 21. The Hauts-de-Seine and Yvelines regions, through their common public center, have implemented their annual winter activity plan, just as Paris did La Défense.

Until mid-March 2025, there are 230 agents (including 160 who can be moved immediately) who will be ready to prevent snow or ice. Coming from both regions, they will be able to carry out interventions during the winter to ensure optimal traffic conditions on approximately 1,570 kilometers of routes in the road network of the two regions and nearly 340 kilometers of roads in urban areas, including the boulevard. Patrick Devedjian, which surrounds the historic heart of the western Parisian business district, and boulevard de La Défense.

“Daily weather monitoring as well as monitoring of the road network will be conducted as soon as necessary,” the two departments said in a joint press release. Depending on how the weather develops and the condition of the road surface, it will be treated with grease or scraping if there is snow. The winter group deployed is based on about forty agents on call 24 hours a day and on equipment equipped and ready to intervene at any time (thirty-two dispatchers salt equipped with snow removal blades). 4,000 tonnes of salt will be stored across all the depots, and will be replenished during the winter, according to the press release.

“The goal is to maintain the minimum traffic conditions during the phenomenon (snow, ice, etc.) and ensure that we return to normal within a variable time frame depending on the weather and the importance of the roads”, add the categories.

The first preventive interventions, carried out thanks to the Intervention and Intelligence Centers (CEI), will take place this fall, when the weather requires it. These night tours, when light lubrication is done before the morning traffic, take place when the temperature is around 0°C with the risk of local ice.

In addition, to deal with exceptional snow events, a partnership approach with the agricultural profession has been initiated since 2011 in the Yvelin area. Agreements concluded with fifteen volunteer farmers allow them to participate in snow clearing activities in rural areas (scraping snow-covered roads, clearing snow in places simple, etc.).
