It wasn’t without tremors, but in the end HSC Kreuzlingen was able to celebrate its first victory in the eighth NLA duel with Scout Winterthur. In a hectic final phase that was hard to beat in terms of tension, the Thurgauers threw away a 27:24 advantage within minutes in front of 500 spectators in the Egelseehalle, but a foul on top scorer Eric Damböck enabled them to score the winning goal 20 seconds before the end . Valon Dedaj gave national goalkeeper Leonard Grazioli no chance to defend on his penalty throw. Playing outnumbered, Scout was then unable to achieve a goal.
Compared to the cup game in St. Gallen on Sunday, the Kreuzlingen audience saw a significantly improved HSCK team in every respect. More aggressive and disciplined in defense, more precise in attack. The starting phase therefore belonged to the Thurgauers, who were ahead 6:3 after nine minutes. As a result, the guests from Winterthur, who won the first duel of the season 33:29, particularly improved their performance, especially national goalie Grazioli. He thwarted several first-class chances for the home team. As a result, Scout Winterthur managed to turn things around. The Rellstab/Lioi/Mierzwa trio scored regularly and put the visitors ahead with two goals for the first time in the 19th minute. After an initial timeout from coach Ralf Baden, the Thurgau team recovered. They equalized the score through Martin Brezina to make it 12:12 (25th), but still had to go into the break 13:14 behind because Grazioli made his tenth save and Bujar Ramosaj only hit the crossbar at the last second.
An injured man on each side
While Kreuzlingen’s right winger Drilon Tahirukaj sustained an injury shortly before the break, Winterthur’s top scorer Tim Rellstab was hit shortly after the restart when the score was 15:15. The five-time goalscorer was no longer able to take part in the game due to a facial injury. Thanks to goals from the accurate 18-year-old left-winger Niclas Mierzwa and the swirly Alessio Lioi, Pathi was again leading 19:17 a little later, but the guests were unable to compensate for the absence of their goalgetter. The Kreuzlingen defense was compact and had a strong goalie in Haris Berisha.
HSCK top scorer Damböck and Fynn Beckmann turned the tide with two successful shots each to make it 23:21. The hosts defended their lead with passion. From the 53rd minute, scout coach Goran Cvetkovic had his team attack with a seventh field player. This measure only had a delayed effect. With three goals within 200 seconds, Scout managed to tie the score again at 27:27 after 59 minutes. However, Kreuzlingen used the final minute to score the winning goal.
