Wijnand runs a double marathon and raises €209,362 for Metakids and 3FM Bad Request!

Wijnand Speelman runs 86 kilometers:

Wijnand Speelman (KRO-NCRV): “We can move mountains together!”

During his journey from Hilversum to Zwolle, Wijnand Speelman covered about 86 kilometers in all weathers. DJ 3FM Mart Meijer reported on the action from his bike, which could be followed all day on 3FM. Friends, family, listeners, but also families dealing with metabolic disease, stood by to support Wijnand. An overview of the main events can be found at 3fm.nl/an angle.

Treating metabolic diseases

Every day a child is born in the Netherlands with a metabolic disease. This often applies to several children in one family. At the moment, treatment that makes or extends their life is only possible for a small number of children. The medical world is on the eve of progress in the treatment of metabolic diseases, including research on medications, gene therapy and diet. That needs money. That’s why 3FM DJs are already committed to raising as much money as possible for Metakids in the run up to 3FM’s Bad Demand.

Donations can still be made for ‘Hollen naar Zwolle’ via 3FM.nl/holl.

Guest 1: It was definitely ⁣an‍ exhilarating experience! The motivation to help raise funds for⁣ Metakids and⁢ see everyone come together to support the cause really kept me going. The physical challenge of running such a long distance was tough, but knowing that my journey could ⁣make a difference for children with metabolic diseases made it all worth it.

Guest 2: Absolutely, I think that’s amazing. It shows the dedication and commitment Wijnand ‍had to make this happen. Could you also tell us more about Metakids and why you decided to support them through your run?

Guest 1: Of course, Metakids is an organization that⁣ supports children with metabolic diseases and their families. Their work is crucial because these diseases are often underfunded and underrecognized, despite ⁤the fact that they ⁢affect so many ‍children’s lives. I wanted to use⁣ my⁣ platform as a DJ and runner to raise awareness about Metakids and help them continue their vital ⁣work.

World-Today-News: That’s a great cause. And how did you prepare for this run? Did you have a specific training routine or nutrition plan in place?

Guest 1: I had been training for quite some time leading up to the run. I did a lot of long-distance ⁢runs, gradually increasing the⁣ distance each week to build up my endurance. As ⁢for nutrition, I worked with a sports‌ dietitian to ensure I ‌was getting the right balance of carbs, protein, and fats to⁣ fuel my body during the run.

Guest-2: That’s impressive! Did you encounter any difficulties during the run? If so, how did you overcome them?

Guest 1: ⁣There were definitely some tough patches, especially when the weather ‍turned quite cold and rainy. But‌ I was ⁣constantly reminded of why I was doing this, and‍ the motivation from everyone who was following⁢ along and supporting me kept me going. Plus, having the right gear and equipment made a big difference in staying comfortable and dry.
