Turkey opposes the United States’ decision to allow Ukraine to use long-range missiles. This was stated by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, quoted by “Daily Sabah”.
He warned that President Joe Biden’s decision would further escalate the conflict and provoke a reaction from Russia.
“We do not consider this decision right, nor do we approve of it,” Erdogan stressed during his flight from Brazil, where he was attending the G20 summit.
Such a development could bring the region and the world to the brink of a bigger war, he pointed out, pointing out that both Russia and Ukraine should focus on peace and restraint.
“Even the smallest mistake would be like throwing a match on a keg of gunpowder. Therefore, I urge everyone to act with caution,” Erdogan insisted.
“President Biden’s move will likely be interpreted as an attempt to fuel the conflict, ensuring that it will neither end nor be contained,” he commented.
On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin approved a policy document that lowered the threshold for Moscow to use nuclear weapons in response to attacks by an enemy using conventional weapons.
The Kremlin has warned that Russia will retaliate against NATO countries that support long-range missile strikes against Russian territory from Ukraine.
