Attorney General’s Office and ACE arrest MagisTV operators

The Attorney General’s Officethrough the Specialized Directorate against Computer Crimes, and the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), a leading coalition in the global fight against piracy, closed, in Colombia, one of the most used illegal streaming services in Latin America, MagisTVOficial[.]com. The closure occurred after ACE identified the operator in Colombia and filed a complaint with the Attorney General’s Office.

The Prosecutor’s Office tracked two illegal streaming television providers, who, in addition to violating the copyrights of the entertainment industry, put the personal and financial information of the people who hired their services at risk.

The operators managed this illegal service, retransmitting content without the authorization of the rights holders. The illegal IPTV service offered channels from all over the world, including sports, movies and series. Those captured were presented before a guarantee control judge and charged with the crimes of violation of copyright and use of malicious software.

ACE applauds the Attorney General’s Office for shutting down an illegal streaming operation that put unwitting consumers at risk of cybercrime,’ he said Larissa Knapp, executive vice president and chief content protection officer of the Motion Picture Association (MPA). ‘We look forward to a continued partnership with the Attorney General’s Office in the fight against digital piracy.’
