Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Until now, Instagram has given users an algorithm that is relevant to what they eat. Users cannot reset the algorithm.
Recently, Instagram is reportedly testing a feature that will allow users to reset algorithm recommendations for Feed, Reels, and Explore.
The company said that this feature is still being tested, but will be rolled out to users worldwide soon.
With these changes, users can reset recommended content from the content options section in Instagram settings.
According to Meta, this will allow users to “start over” and will allow suggestions to be reset on the Instagram app.
The company notes that performing this type of reset will not delete user data from the app or change how the company serves ads. Because Instagram has different options to personalize advertising options.
Meta is requesting this change as part of its efforts to bring new security features to teen users, although the features will be available to all users.
“We want to give teens new ways to shape their Instagram experience, so it can continue to reflect their interests and passions as they grow,” the company wrote in blog post.
The app previously faced criticism over the algorithm’s recommendations to users, which European Union regulators said could encourage “addictive behaviour”.
The company notes that it has other youth-specific features aimed at preventing young users from being scammed.

Messages from unknown users. These features are a step in the right direction, but their effectiveness largely depends on how well teenagers understand and use them. While some youth-specific features can help reduce the likelihood of scams and inappropriate interactions, it’s crucial for Instagram to continue educating users about online safety and providing tools that empower them to navigate the platform responsibly.
Hello and welcome to our interview today. We have with us two guests, Sarah Smith, a social media strategist, and David Johnson, a tech enthusiast. Sarah is going to share her thoughts on the newly tested algorithm reset feature on Instagram and David is going to provide insights on the impact of such changes on teen users and the company’s strategy.
Sarah, let’s start with you. How do you think the algorithm reset feature on Instagram will impact content creators and businesses using the platform?
Sarah: Thank you for having me. I believe the algorithm reset feature is a great opportunity for both content creators and businesses using Instagram. It allows them to experiment with different content styles and engagement strategies without losing their existing followers. This can lead to more creativity and engagement, which is ultimately beneficial for everyone involved. However, it also means that they need to constantly adapt to new changes and stay up-to-date with the latest trends and updates on the platform.
David, can you tell us more about the possible reasons behind Instagram’s decision to introduce this feature?
David: Sure. I believe this feature is primarily aimed at addressing concerns raised by regulators and parents about the potential harmful effects of addictive behavior due to personalized recommendations on the app. By allowing users to reset their algorithms, Instagram hopes to give them more control over their experience and mitigate these risks. Additionally, introducing this feature could help improve user retention and satisfaction, which are crucial for the app’s long-term success.
Sarah, do you think this feature will be well-received by Instagram users, particularly teenagers?
Sarah: Yes, I think this feature will be well-received by teenagers, who are often the most active on the platform. It gives them the ability to customize their experience and prioritize content they are interested in. However, it remains to be seen whether they will actually use this feature regularly or if it will become another unused feature in the app.
David, what are your thoughts on Instagram’s other youth-specific features and their effectiveness in preventing scams or protecting young users?
David: Instagram has already implemented several features aimed at protecting young users, such as hiding like counts and restricting
