Ukraine used American ATACMS missiles for the first time to attack an arsenal deep in Russia, two unnamed officials in Ukraine and the United States confirmed to AFP and Reuters. Earlier, the Ukrainian General Staff reported on a successful attack on an ammunition depot near the city of Karachev in the Bryansk Region in western Russia, without specifying by what means the Russian arsenal was hit. The Ukrainians used American missiles for the attack, the Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed.

“The attack in the Bryansk region was carried out using ATACMS missiles,” AFP quoted an unnamed Ukrainian official as saying. An unnamed American official for the Reuters agency also expressed the same opinion.

At a press conference in Kyiv on Tuesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi neither denied nor confirmed the use of missiles from the US to strike Russia. According to AFP, he only said that his country had ATACMS missiles at its disposal and “will use them”.
The Ukrainian General Staff previously reported about a dozen explosions and detonations in the area of the munitions warehouse that was hit.
The Astra Telegram channel, citing unnamed sources, reported that in addition to the ammunition depot, at least eight residential houses were damaged in the night attack in Karachev, and damage is also reported from several nearby villages. Unmanned aircraft crashed in Karačevo on the premises of an air conditioning company, but did not cause any damage there.

Karachev is located near Bryansk, about 130 kilometers from the border with Ukraine. Footage of massive detonations appeared on social networks.
The Russian Ministry of Defense also informed about the use of missiles on social network. “At 3:25 a.m. (01:25 CET) at night, the enemy attacked an object on the territory of Bryansk Region with six ballistic missiles. According to confirmed data, he used US-made ATACMS tactical missiles,” the ministry claims, according to which the attack resulted in no casualties or damage.
“As a result of the firing of anti-missile missiles by the crews of the S-400 and Pancir air defense systems, five missiles were shot down and one was damaged. Their debris fell on the territory of a military facility in the Bryansk region, which caused a fire, which has since been extinguished,” added the ministry.

Ukrainian general staff previously reported about a dozen explosions and detonations in the area of the affected ammunition warehouse. Similar claims by hostile parties cannot be directly verified from independent sources in wartime conditions.
“Indeed, for the first time (Ukrainian troops) used ATACMS to strike on Russian territory. The attack was directed at an object in the Bryansk region, which was successfully hit,” the RBK-Ukraine server quoted its anonymous source from the ranks of the Ukrainian army as saying. The server added that Karachev is located near Bryansk, about 130 kilometers from the border with Ukraine. Footage of massive detonations appeared on social networks.

The attacks carried out by the Ukrainian army in Russia’s Bryansk region with the deployment of missiles supplied by the United States clearly demonstrate that the West wants to escalate the war in Ukraine, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Tuesday, according to Reuters.
Lavrov said he hoped politicians in the West would read carefully the new Russian nuclear doctrine confirmed by President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday. The document expands the list of possibilities when Moscow can use nuclear weapons. According to Lavrov, Russia will do everything to prevent a nuclear war. He added that nuclear weapons function as a deterrent against nuclear war.
If Ukraine uses long-range weapons to attack Russian territory, it means, according to the head of Russian diplomacy, that they are operated by American military personnel. “Without the Americans, it is impossible to use these highly advanced missiles, as (Russian President Vladimir) Putin has repeatedly said. We will consider this a new phase of the West’s war against Russia and we will react accordingly,” Lavrov said.
‘The Brown Line’
The ammunition depot, identified as the 67th arsenal of the Main Administration of Artillery and Missile Troops of the Russian Ministry of Defense, according to Ukrainian sources, contained artillery ammunition, including North Korean-made, guided aerial bombs and missiles for both air defense and rocket launchers. The warehouse was already attacked by Ukrainian drones at the beginning of October.

Citing unnamed sources, Censor.net editor-in-chief Yuriy Butusov also reported on the first attack by US-made missiles on a target in Russia, according to which Ukraine used the permission of US President Joe Biden.
RBK-Ukraine noted that earlier several Western media reported that US President Biden agreed to limited use of ATACMS missiles, which have a range of up to 300 kilometers, to attack targets on Russian territory.
However, it was assumed that this permission only refers to attacks in Russia’s Kursk region, where Ukrainian troops have penetrated, which are now facing, among other things, North Korean soldiers deployed in the war against Ukraine. Washington has not officially confirmed the information about the possible use of American missiles.
