Description
On Wednesday, November 20th, 2024, at 7:30 p.m., the HEART CHOIR once again invites you to a special evening in the Erzhammer Cultural Center in Annaberg-Buchholz. After the success of the last concert, this time the choir is bringing a special guest to the stage: Kai Degenhardt, son of the well-known songwriter Franz Josef Degenhardt and author of the book “Wessen Morgen ist der Morgen. Workers’ song and workers’ struggles in Germany.”
The evening will be a mix of concert, reading and communal singing. Visitors can expect a diverse selection of workers’ songs, which are not only sung, but also historically classified and explained. Singing along is expressly encouraged!

Section 1: Introduction to the HEART Choir and their mission
Interviewer: Can you tell us a little about the HEART Choir and their mission to preserve and promote workers’ songs through their performances?
Guest 1: Absolutely! The HEART Choir is a diverse group of individuals who are dedicated to preserving and passing on songs from social and labor movements. We believe that these songs not only have historical significance but also carry powerful messages that are still relevant today. We work together at our weekly rehearsals to musically and historically revisit the pieces, develop our own interpretations, and sometimes even create small scenic representations of the songs.
Guest 2: Our goal is to use music as a tool for cultural and political education. We aim to engage our audience in meaningful conversations about the struggles and triumphs of workers throughout history and how they continue to shape our society. We want people to not only enjoy the music but also leave our performances with a deeper understanding and appreciation for the stories behind the songs.
Section 2: The significance of worker’s songs
Interviewer: What makes worker’s songs so significant, and why is it important for the HEART Choir to perform them?
Guest 1: Worker’s songs have been an integral part of labor movements for centuries. They were used to communicate the struggles and aspirations of workers, to build solidarity, and to inspire change. By performing these songs, we’re keeping their legacy alive and ensuring that their messages aren’t forgotten. These songs remind us of the hardships workers have endured and the progress that’s been made towards labor rights and social justice.
Guest 2: In addition to preserving history, these songs also offer a unique form of expression for people who might not otherwise have a platform. They provide a space for workers to voice their concerns, celebrate their victories, and connect with others who share their experiences. The HEART Choir sees itself as that platform, a way for people to come together and share in the power
