Secretary of State Nora Achahbar (NSC) resigned on Friday conversation with the SBS programme The Heart of Holland looking back at the week behind her. Her departure from the cabinet caused a crisis, as other ministers from her party were also considering resigning. In the end, the crisis was averted after hours of consultation at the Catshuis.
This is the first time since her retirement that Acahbar is seeking publicity. She emphasizes again that it was polarizing methods, among other things, that made her leave. “By this I mean the rage within the Council of Ministers, but especially what the ministers and members of the House of Representatives say to the outside world. ” Again, she does not provide specific examples of the methods.
She specifically denies that she resigned because of allegations of racism in the cabinet. “I read strange reports that are not true. I did not leave because of racism. It is destructive.”
Acahbar does not know, she says, what this story brought into the world. “I have no idea what happened there. It’s like the old game where you pour something in each other’s ear, and at the end of the circle comes a completely different word out. Something went wrong.”
Oxygen
While she herself contributed to Friday’s summary, Acahbar also wants to go against it The Heart of Holland say nothing about a statement about “shitty Moroccans” that was allegedly made in the Council of Ministers, after the riots in Amsterdam around the Ajax-Maccabi Tel Aviv football match. “I don’t want to go into specific words, then I will give him oxygen. Acahbar has not responded to multiple requests from NOS for further explanation in the past week. “I didn’t respond earlier because I’ve been on a rollercoaster the last few days,” she said. “I hope that stops now.”
‘Not out of my sight’
About Finance Minister Heinen, who was accused of racist statements by sources in The Hague, she says “those rumors did not come from me”. She said goodbye to Heinen on Friday and does not understand where the suggestion that the collaboration was difficult came from. As Secretary of State for Welfare and Customs, she was in the department for which Heinen is politically responsible as a minister.
She doesn’t want to say much about the future of Schoof’s cabinet. “Cooperation with the PVV can only work if everyone adheres to the common bottom line of the four coalition parties. I don’t think that will happen.”
