“Vienna repairs” – Are you still buying new things or are you already repairing? | W24

W24 is pleased to announce the new TV series “Vienna Repairs” in cooperation with Mischief Films. From November 27th, the eight-part series will be broadcast regularly on W24 and offers exciting insights into the Viennese repair scene – sustainable, innovative and humorous.

“Wien repairs” portrays Vienna as an international pioneer in the circular economy. Filmmaker and activist David Groß, known from the series “Wastecooking”, together with directors Jakob Kubizek and Peter Sihorsch, accompanies 32 dedicated repairers who bring over 40 objects – from everyday objects to curious rarities – back to life.

A series that has its finger on the pulse of time

The culture of repairing is currently experiencing a renaissance, fueled by the new EU right to repair and initiatives such as the repair bonus in Vienna. With one of the world’s largest repair networks, Vienna is a hotspot for the circular economy. The “Vienna Repairs” series delves into this unique universe and shows the diversity and creativity of Viennese repair professionals.

With Wien repairs, we are not only bringing an exciting and entertaining format to the screens, but are also setting a strong example for sustainability and resource conservation. The series shows how innovative and diverse the Viennese repair scene is – and that repairing can not only be useful, but also fun. We are proud to be making a contribution to raising awareness with this project and showcasing the creativity and skills of our city’s repair professionals,“ says Michael Kofler, Community Manager W24.

Diversity and originality of Viennese repair professionals

From the smallest workshop in Vienna to high-tech laboratories – the series presents the city’s most original repair experts. Whether it’s the guitar repairer Adam Wehsely-Swiczinsky, who even revives junkyard finds, or the “slow fashion” experts Alina Saavedra Santis and Serafina Spatt, who consciously and visibly repair clothing using the technique of “visible mending”. “Wien repairs” shows that repairing is more than sustainability – it is art, culture and creativity.

Inspiring insights and practical tips

Repairing is more than just a trend. It is an old cultural technique that we must re-acquire in order to become fit for the future. To put it in plain Viennese terms: It’s simply leiwand,” says moderator David Groß happily. With humorous insights and practical repair tips, the series motivates people to take the screwdriver into their own hands and reuse things instead of throwing them away.

Broadcast on W24

“Wien repairs” will be broadcast on W24 on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. from November 27th. The eight-part series is aimed at anyone who wants to develop their creativity, conserve resources and become part of the repair movement. Funded by the Vienna Film Fund and the Austrian Television Fund.
