/ world today news/ “BSP‘s position is first and foremost a position for peace. Bulgaria should not be involved in military actions in Ukraine. I very much hope that the Minsk agreements will be implemented, that the situation in Ukraine will come out of its military phase. Bulgaria must have its clear and distinct place in all European actions and decisions. There must be a clear position of the Bulgarian government”, said the chairman of the BSP, Mihail Mikov, in Vidin, where he took part in an anti-war protest.
The chairman of the BSP added that the position against the war is expressed in the cities throughout the country, where people want peace, a gradual normalization of relations in which Bulgaria can develop normal cultural and commercial relations with Russia. European solidarity is needed for the losses of Bulgaria, which suffers from the sanctions against Russia and from Russia’s counter-sanctions against the EU, Mikov pointed out. When asked by a journalist what Bulgaria can do, the BSP leader explained that this can be done by clearly stating in Brussels its position of the countries of South-Eastern Europe when these issues are discussed in the European Parliament, the European Commission and the relevant councils. “We also want solidarity with the Bulgarians in Ukraine, because at the moment they are suffering and Bulgaria should be in their support,” Mikov said.
The protest in front of the regional administration in Vidin was attended by members and sympathizers of the BSP, including MP Filip Popov, representatives of the “Vidin” civic association, the Slavic Society in Bulgaria and the Russian community living in the city.
