In Nantes, a gang of hyperviolent teenagers arrested after a series of attacks

Five young people, aged 14 to 18, were referred to the Nantes public prosecutor’s office on November 14. They are suspected of being behind a wave of knife attacks and robberies since last summer.

Seven other attacks could be attributed to this group of delinquents.

Acts of “particular gravity”

Investigators linked the different attacks thanks to recurring clues, such as the use of a large Opinel 13 type knife, or even a hammer. A mode of operation favoring an attack in excess, particularly around bus stations, was also highlighted. The use of video surveillance cameras from a shopping center also allowed investigators to put a face on four of the individuals and to identify the gang, based in the Clos-Toreau district, in the south of the city. Nantes, not far from the Malakoff sector where several of the attacks were committed.

The Nantes public prosecutor’s office announced, Tuesday, November 19, the opening of a judicial investigation into the counts of “violence with the use of a weapon”, “aggravated violence”, “arrest, kidnapping, sequestration of a minor committed in a gang organized crime”, “organized gang armed robbery” and “dissemination of the recording of images relating to the commission of a willful attack on the integrity of the person”. Referred to the prosecution on Thursday, November 14, three young people – including an 18-year-old adult – were placed in pre-trial detention. Two other teenagers, “less involved”were placed under judicial supervision.

“This case justified the deployment of significant but necessary investigative resources given the repetition of particularly serious acts which have largely disturbed public order in the Malakoff and Clos-Toreau districts over the last few years. month”, said the Nantes public prosecutor, Renaud Gaudeul, in a press release on Tuesday. Others accused are still wanted by the courts, he added.
