(Bodø now): After several years of fighting against the technology giant Apple, rejoicing began in Vipps in July this year. Threats of fines from EU competition authorities eventually forced Apple to open up to other mobile wallets, such as Vipps.
Since then, Vipps has been working hard to make the application ready for use on iPhone and Android, so that Ali and Kari can pay with Vipps in the store even more easily. Now all that remains is testing and final approval in Apple’s App Store.
– We have fought for so long to be able to offer our users a Norwegian alternative to Apple Pay. Therefore, we are very much looking forward to being able to distribute carpets to all of Norway in December, says Rune Garborg, head of Vipps MobilePay.
Single
A carpet with Vipps will be very easy. Hold your mobile phone close to the terminal of the card and flip, and you have paid. It will be possible to set Vipps as the default payment app on iPhone and Android, so you don’t have to open the Vipps app to pay. On the iPhone, you press the double side button, and on Android, you simply open the mobile phone.
At launch, you can pay with your mobile phone at all card machines that accept BankAxept cards, which corresponds to almost all card machines in Norway . In a few months, and in good time before the summer holidays, blankets will also be available with Visa and Mastercard cards, and it will be possible to make a blanket with Vipps also outside the borders of Norway.
SpareBank 1, DNB and several other savings banks have customers who can be first. Vipps is working to get more banks involved.
– We compete against Apple, one of the biggest brands in the world. Therefore, it is important to launch it as soon as possible. And then we will want to continuously add more banks, international cards and other simplifications, Rune Garborg concludes.
There are no companies in the world at the moment that have launched an alternative to Apple Pay on the iPhone.
