Promote additional research, including standardization of raw materials

The National Honam Biological Resources Center under the Ministry of Environment announced on the 19th that it had confirmed, along with the Jeonju Agricultural and Life Materials Research Institute, that the extract of the gallbladder flower is effective in suppressing hair growth and hair loss.
This study is part of the ‘Research on the use and advancement of customizing island and coastal biological resources’ conducted from 2022.
As a result of the study, among the natural products of 130 plant species native to Jeollanam-do, substances that promote the proliferation of human dermal papilla cells were searched, and the glycolytic flower extract showed the best efficacy.
This flower belongs to the Rosaceae family and grows naturally along the coasts of Korea. In the East, it has been used as a folk medicine treatment for a long time and is known to have various effects such as anti-inflammatory, anti-hyperlipidemia, skin aging prevention, and anti-hypertensive effects.
The National Honam Area Biological Resources Center has applied for a patent for a composition for preventing and treating hair loss using glycolic flower extract as an active ingredient. In accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, follow-up research is also being conducted to determine the mechanism of action for promoting hair growth and suppressing hair loss.
As a result of administering glycolic acid extract to animals, researchers confirmed that hair growth improved and became thicker, similar to anti-hormonal drugs that show hair loss symptoms relief effects.
Choi Gyeong-min, head of the Island Biotechnology Research Department at the National Honam Biological Resources Center, said, “Based on this study, we will conduct additional research, such as standardization of raw materials, and transfer technology to private companies to contribute to the development of the national biological industry.”

var snsSummary = “환경부 산하 국립호남권생물자원관은 19일 (재)전주농생명소재연구원과 함께 해당화 추출물이 모발 성장과 탈모 억제에 효과가 있음을 확인했다고 밝혔다.이번 연구는 2022년부터 진행한 ‘도서·연안 생물자원 커스터마이징 활용 및 고도화 연구’의 일환이다.연구 결과 전라남도에 자생하는 130여 식물 종 천연물 가운데 인간 모유두세포 증식을 촉진하는 물질을 탐색한 결과 해당화 추출물이 가장 우수한 효능을 보였다.해당화는 장미과에 속하는 식물로 우리나라 해안가에 자생한다. 동양에서는 오래전부터 민간요법 치료제로 사용해 항염증, 항고지혈증, 피부 노화 예방, 항고혈압 효과 등 다양한 효능이 있는 것으로 알려졌다.국립호남권생물자원관은 해당화 추출물을 유효성분으로 활용한 탈모 예방 및 치료용 조성물에 대한 특허를 출원했다. 식품의약품안전처의 지침에 따라 발모 촉진과 탈모 억제 효과 작용기전을 규명하기 위한 후속 연구도 진행 중이다.연구진은 동물에 해당화 추출물을 투여 한 결과, 탈모증상 완화효과를 보이는 항호르몬제제와 유사하게 모발 성장이 개선되고 굵기가 두꺼워지는 결과가 나타나는 것을 확인했다.최경민 국립호남권생물자원관 도서생물융합연구실장은 “이번 연구를 바탕으로 원료 표준화 등 추가연구를 진행해 민간기업에 기술을 이전함으로써 국가 생물산업 발전에 이바지하겠다”고 말했다.”
