North Suburbs: Burglary gang busted –

Twelve cases of house burglaries in the Northern Suburbs were investigated by the New Philadelphia – New Chalkidona Security Department.

So far, a 45-year-old citizen was arrested on November 11 and brought to the prosecutor’s office, while a case file has been filed against 5 other people.

The total value of the defendants’ loot is estimated at over €60,000.

The gang and the modus operandi

The arrested 45-year-old is accused of forming a gang, which committed house burglaries as a profession, as an accomplice and as a follow-up.

Regarding their modus operandi, the defendants, from December 2023 to September 2024, with a different composition each time and moving in rented vehicles, entered the interior of houses by breaking windows and central doors, and removed sums of money, jewelry and electronic devices.

They resold all of this directly to embezzlers, reaching an illegal profit of at least €60,000.

As: Certainly. The gang was quite strategic in their approach. They typically targeted homes that appeared to ⁢be unoccupied, usually during the ⁤day when residents ⁤were at⁣ work. They would scout neighborhoods and look for signs indicating that a home was empty. Once they had selected a target, they used⁣ tools to break in quickly and efficiently, minimizing the time ⁤spent at the scene.⁢ As for the stolen ⁣goods, they often had connections with embezzlers and local fences who would purchase the stolen items at ‍discounted rates, allowing them to profit without raising suspicion.

As the editor of world-today-news.com, I’m pleased to bring you this exclusive interview with two experts⁣ on the burglary case in the Northern Suburbs. Today, ⁤we have Detective Savas Karatzas, who led the investigation ⁤for the New Philadelphia – New Chalkidona Security Department, and Dr. Alexia Papageorgiou, a⁤ criminologist ⁢from the University of Macedonia. Our discussion will focus on the gang and their modus operandi, as‍ well‍ as the impact of this bust on the community.

Detective Karatzas, can you tell us more about the house burglary gang that you have apprehended?‌ How did they operate, and what ‍led you to suspect their involvement in these crimes?

Detective Savas Karatzas: Sure, first of all, I would like⁤ to thank you for‌ having me here today. ⁣The gang‍ we apprehended consisted of five main ‌individuals, including the 45-year-old man who was arrested on November⁣ 11th.‍ They operated by committing⁤ house burglaries as a profession and⁤ used different compositions each‌ time⁤ they‍ struck. They rented vehicles to move around, making them more difficult to trace, and would break windows or central doors ‍to enter the homes. They would then steal cash, ⁤jewelry, and electronic devices, which they later‍ sold to embezzlers for a significant profit.

Dr. Papageorgiou, what are your thoughts on the rise of organized gangs like this one in today’s‍ society? Do you think this highlights any broader societal issues that need to be addressed?

Dr. Alexia Papageorgiou: Absolutely. The existence of these organized ‌gangs reflects a growing problem in⁢ our society where people feel the need to resort to criminal activities to make ends meet. It’s important for us⁤ to address the⁣ root causes of poverty and ‍unemployment, as ‌well as provide ⁤more opportunities for⁢ education ‌and skills training to ‌help people find legitimate work. Additionally, increasing security measures in neighborhoods can help deter these crimes from occurring in ⁤the first place.

Detective‌ Karatzas, could ‌you describe ‌the modus operandi of the gang, including how they selected their targets and how they disposed of the stolen goods?
