Thirty-nine days after the PT group lost the municipal election in Lauro de Freitas, in the Metropolitan Region of Salvador, Mayor Moema Gramacho (PT) fired at least 1,666 people related to commission positions. Some of the laid off workers even said that he did not receive a salary in Octoberand their wages were taken away. The people, in turn, described how fragile basic services were, such as the cleaning of villages and the operation of schools.
CORREIO raised the number of people who were laid off in a publication made in the Official Gazette of the City (DOM), on the 14th However, workers indicate that the number of layoffs is higher. “I am sure that it is more, apart from the ghosts, that do not go on these lists”, said Lenildo Eduardo de Jesus, 50, who worked as an inspector at the Secretariat of Traffic and Transport (Settop ) for about two years. .
Lenildo is, in fact, one of the workers who received their payment last month. The change in the shared price was 800 $. “My salary was R $ 2,000, and I received R $ 1,200. This hurt me and my colleagues a lot. There are people whose names are not even in the Official Gazette (on the layoff list) and who have not received any money yet. That’s what we can’t understand,” he said.
This is the case of employee Bruna Indiara Barreto, 32 years old, who has been working in a basic health unit in the city for five years. Without their name on the list, the employee was not paid in October, without prior notice, as were the breaks. “There was no information. The money just didn’t drop,” he said.
The changes had a direct impact on the lives of attendees. Bruna, for example, had to return to live with her father because she was unable to keep up with the rent and expenses for her 12-year-old son. “Now, with a lack of money, I go to the UPA in São Cristóvão almost every day. Without money, I had to give up the rented house and returned to my father’s house to put my son under a roof. I’m desperate,” he said.
Another employee of the town hall, who did not identify herself for fear of reprisal, said that she received her salary after 15 days of delay, with a discount of R$ 800, despite was not burned. “I had to negotiate with my boss to work fewer hours. I am not the only isolated case, most of the workers (go through this situation). I think it is very cruel. The person will work like anyone else and will not be notified in advance”, he said.

The vulnerability of basic services following the election results has been highlighted by sacked workers and residents of the city. Lenildo’s 11-year-old son does not even spend 3 hours at Escola Municipal Constantino Vieira, in Portão. This is because there is a shortage of doormen, cleaning service providers and kitchen staff. “Students were being released at 10am. I wasn’t taking classes properly. It seems that some teachers were also being fired. Not to mention the stench that lives in the school”, he said.
In the Miragem subdivision, the municipal waste collection service was affected from the night of November 6, and did not resume on the 9th “After that, the collection started, but in a precarious way. Our case is not just a selective collection, but a serious problem with improper disposal”, said Sandra Guido, Association of Residents and Owners of Loteamento Miragem (AMOM).
Miragem has a recycling bin, which is used to dispose of recyclables, which is overloaded because the town hall does not remove the material. “When they fill up, they order them to be taken away. After this strike (the fragility of services), it is a disaster. The littering was stopped after the election results. Here, in Miragem, it didn’t take long, maybe because of what we show, but other points in the town took longer”, said Sandra.
Teaching student Gabriela Gomes, 23, said that the Psychological Care Center (Caps) where her cousin is being treated is without cleaning agents and food for its staff. “If there were 12 hot dishes before, there are 7 today. Myself and several other people were very afraid that the unit would be cancelled. There was even a day when service was suspended for everyone due to lack of maintenance, which was the responsibility of the cleaners who were terminated”, he said.
The city council of Lauro de Freitas has been contacted to give an answer about the layoffs, late salaries and the fragility of services. However, there were no answers until the close of this article.
