Last Saturday, the pending date of the 2024 Clausura Tournament, organized by the Tierra del Fuego Rugby Union, was played. Two meetings took place in the Fuegian capital and the remaining one took place in Tolhuin.
In today’s match on the Colegio del Sur “Gerardo Hiriart” field, the local team received its neighbors from Ushuaia Rugby Club. It was a match with a lot at stake, nothing more and nothing less than the ticket to the final of the Clausura Rugby 2024 tournament.
On this occasion, the Pipo URC tricolor took revenge for that fall on their court, against this same rival.
It was a very hard-fought and difficult match, where only one try was scored through Martín Andrada. After Cristián Mansilla’s feet came the rest of Ushuaia Rugby Club’s goals, to seal a great 11-0 victory.
Victory for Las Águilas and Universitario
While the leader of the tournament, Las Águilas, received Río Grande Rugby & Hockey Club in their stronghold.
The fuchsia and black team achieved a new victory and continues with an overwhelming performance. On this occasion they were dispatched 53 to 12 over the green team of Río Grande.
In “La Turba”, the local Tolhuin Rugby Club, faced the tough Universitario de Río Grande, with great success in this tournament.
The match was in the hands of the Rio Grande do Sul team by a tight 33 to 28, making it clear that the Tolhuinense team is gradually establishing itself in the upper circle of Tierra del Fuego rugby, putting up a fight against its rivals.

Pedro: Thank you for having me. We’re really proud of the team’s performance this season. They’ve been working extremely hard, and their hard work has paid off. Yesterday’s victory was a testament to that. The team played with passion, precision, and coordination. We knew Río Grande was a tough opponent, but we were prepared and executed our game plan perfectly. We’re looking forward to the next match and hopefully finishing strong in the tournament.
Editor: Excellent. Tomás, you’ve been covering rugby in Tierra del Fuego for quite some time now. What are your thoughts on the development of rugby in the region, and specifically, the Clausura Tournament?
Tomás: Tierra del Fuego rugby has come a long way in recent years. The Clausura Tournament is just one example of that. It’s great to see the level of competition continuing to rise. What’s particularly interesting about this year’s tournament is the performances of the underdogs, like Tolhuin Rugby Club, who put up a strong fight against Universitario. It shows that rugby is becoming more popular and diverse in the region, with more teams and players getting involved. The future of rugby in Tierra del Fuego looks bright.
