MEXICO CITY, November 18 (EL UNIVERSAL).- The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, is in Rio de Janeiro for the G-20 summit, on the margins of which she has held meetings with a series of leaders, including the French president. , Emmanuel Macron.
It was precisely a gesture by Macron with Sheinbaum that went viral on social networks: upon arriving at the room where the summit would take place, Macron approached to greet the President, giving her a warm handshake.
Then, like a true gentleman, Macron kissed the Mexican woman’s hand.
“What elegance, that of France,” was one of the most popular comments regarding the gesture.
Sheinbaum and Macron held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the summit, the first between them since Sheinbaum assumed power on October 1 and Macron’s first with a Mexican president in six years, given that he never met with former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
Both leaders reaffirmed their intention to cooperate in favor of the equality of women and men with the holding of the fourth ministerial conference on “feminist foreign policies” in France in 2025.
“During this first meeting, the two leaders agreed to deepen the strategic partnership between Mexico and France on the energy transition, connectivity, especially rail connectivity, trade and environmental protection,” the French presidency said in a note.
On this last point, The Elysée said that they will strengthen ties with the Latin American country in view of the UN Conference on the Oceans that will be held in Nice in June 2025.
Both Macron and Scheinbaum converged on “the intention to work together” within the framework of the Paris Pact for People and the Planet so that “no country has to choose between the fight against poverty and the preservation of the environment.”
