Mistral AI, a fast-rising French player in the field of artificial intelligence, revealed this Monday, November 18, 2024, significant improvements for its conversational assistant, Le Chat. By equipping itself with new functionalities, such as the analysis of visuals and documents, the understanding and generation of images, or search on the web, the tool aims to meet the varied needs of users, while completing its offer to seriously compete with ChatGPT or Claude. The Chat update marks a major advance in its ability to offer precise and tailored responses. Notable additions include a web search functionality with citations. This new addition makes it possible to receive answers supported by reliable sources from the web, specifically cited and accessible in order to allow users to verify the information provided for themselves. In recent months, ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity have strengthened themselves with this type of real-time access to web search.
Another new feature is the interface with the very original name of Canvas, which is defined as a collaboration space. This functionality, which is of course reminiscent of Claude’s Artefacts, and even less so… ChatGPT Canvas, intended for content creation, offers tools for developing documents, presentations, code or even models . Mistral’s objective is to enable fluid interaction between users and AI, thus promoting creativity and efficiency, thanks to a double-windowed interface.
On a technical level, Le Chat also improves the management of complex content. Thanks to the Pixtral Large multimodal model, it becomes possible to analyze and summarize large PDF documents, but also to process visual elements such as graphs or tables. Generating images using Flux for a furry cat
To perfect the Chat’s capabilities, Mistral now includes a real image generator, thanks to a partnership with Black Forest Labs allowing the use of the Flux Pro model. It will therefore now be possible to create visuals and images directly from the chatbot interface. The Flux Pro model is one of the best developed by Black Forest Labs and is placed at the top of the benchmarks, along with Midjourney or Ideogram.
Finally, Mistral is finally deploying one last major feature: Agents. They allow you to memorize instructions, prompts or recurring processes, then automate the AI in order to configure personalized work sequences. This system works the same as custom instructions in ChatGPT. Agents can be published and shared, similar to the personalized GPTs available in the GPT Store in free version.
Mistral concludes by specifying that the performance of its model has been optimized: a new method, based on speculative editing, accelerates the processing of requests, thus offering faster and more fluid responses. As a reminder, Le Chat is still completely free, in beta, and accessible by simple registration.
