Turin. The Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner, world number 1, is guaranteed to participate in the semifinals of the ATP Masters even before his third group stage match against the Russian Daniil Medvedev this Thursday, thanks to the set won by the Australian Alex de Miñaur against the American Taylor Fritz.
By winning that round 7-5 against Fritz (number 5), in a match that is still ongoing, De Miñaur (number 7) offered Sinner a ticket to the semifinals.
The Italian, who has won his first two matches of the 2024 ATP Masters against De Minaur and Fritz, will advance even in case of defeat against Medvedev (number 4), who for his part must beat the Italian to hope to advance.
Sinner, finalist of the 2023 edition and winner of seven tournaments this season, including his first two Grand Slams at the Australian Open and the US Open, has not yet won any tournament in front of the Italian public.
The second ticket in the Ilie Nastase group for the semifinals will be for Fritz or Medvedev, since De Miñaur has lost his options after conceding the second set 6-4 against Fritz.
