Rome, 17 Nov. (Adnkronos) – “The final document of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (UIP) meeting at Cop29 is clear: the objectives of the UN and the Paris Agreement on the reduction of harmful gases are at risk and, without a reversal of trend on the transition ecological, survival in many currently habitable territories will be irreparably compromised.” This is what the leader of the PD group in the Environment Commission Marco Simiani declared from Baku.
“Co2 emissions – continues the Dem deputy – are increasing compared to 2023 and this year they will reach 41.6 billion tonnes. Parliaments around the world are called to adopt this Final Document to save the planet. Today, countries governed by the right, including Italy, continue to invest in polluting sources such as fossil fuels or delay the ecological transition with the re-proposal of nuclear power, a solution that has been outdated by the times, effectively condemning future generations. Heads of State such as Trump soon and currently Javier Milei (Argentina has withdrawn the delegation from Baku), are underestimating a situation which in the coming years, without decisive interventions, is destined to worsen with an exponential increase in natural disasters”.
“The Global Carbon Project report predicts a new increase in Co2 emissions. By the end of this year, carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions are expected to increase by 0.8% compared to 2023, reaching 37.4 billion tonnes. In fact, 32% of the increase in global CO2 emissions will be due to China (+0.2% on an annual basis), 13% to the United States (-0.6%), 8% to India ( +4.6%), 7% to the European Union (-3.8%), and 38% to the rest of the world (+1.1%)”, concludes Simiani.
