Salzburg beats Bozen, Fehervar new first

Red Bull Salzburg shot HCB Südtirol from the top of the ICE Hockey League on Sunday. The reigning champion defeated the team from Bolzano 6:3 in the 18th round. At the same time, Fehervar won 4-0 at HC Innsbruck, making the Hungarians the new league leaders. The KAC won at Olimpija Ljubljana 7:5. The Black Wings Linz beat Asiago at home with the same result.

In Salzburg the audience saw very different thirds. While the hosts took a 3-0 lead in the first 20 minutes, the South Tyroleans responded with three goals in the middle period to equalize. The decision came in the final third when Ryan Murphy brought the “Bulls” back in front (51st). To top it all off, there were two empty net goals from Mario Huber (59th) and Benjamin Nissner (60th). The champions, who are now fourth with 29 points, also won the second duel of the season with the Bolzano team.

In Innsbruck, Fehervar was dry and efficient, while the “Sharks” missed their chances. The Hungarian guests netted four times and moved past Bozen (38) to the top of the league with 39 points. The fans in Laibach were treated to a rollercoaster of emotions, where the lead changed several times. Despite falling behind twice, the KAC emerged victorious at Olimpija, with Johannes Bischofberger winning the match with three goals (3rd, 51st, 56th). The “Red Jackets” finished sixth with 27 points, catching up with the fifth-placed Slovenes.

There was also a high-scoring exchange of blows in Linz. The Black Wings were ahead 5-1 after 34 efficient minutes. But the guests from Asiago made it 4:5 within six minutes before the second break. When the equalizer fell in the final third, the game threatened to collapse. But Brian Lebler (58th) and Ken Ograjensek (60th) scored Linz’s third win in a row since the international break.
