Before the difficult away encounter, head coach Götz Rohdewald had called for them not to fall behind the highly motivated hosts who “will give it their all.” His team only implemented this requirement until shortly before half-time. Despite the pressure of having to win, Trier managed to remain stable throughout the entire game. Münster allowed themselves 17 turnovers and were clearly dominated in rebounding (33:47). The guests weren’t up to par, especially when it came to defensive rebounds (5:16).

With a changed squad, without Cosmo Grühn, Bo Hodges (arm injury in the final training) and Oli Pahnke, but with Sigu Jawara back, the Uni Baskets found themselves behind early on: 6:13 after five minutes – the opposite of what they had planned . There was a lack of physical presence. Trier initially rebounded well defensively and hit three-pointers, the Uni Baskets mainly scored points from the two-point area and better over the course of the quarter, while their three-pointers had a rest day. Adam Touray signaled the arrival of the guests with a dunk. After Stefan Weß’ mid-range goal, the Münster team was up 13:12 and had to let it go until the quarter break. Six ball losses up to this point were painful. 21:14 after quarter one.
With both teams having ups and downs in this phase of the game, Münster managed to start the second half. The Rohdewald team temporarily worked more effectively on the defensive board and equalized with the first long-range goal in the seventh attempt via Sigu Jawara (23:23, 13th). The guests kept their cool in what was at times a hectic game. Adam Touray (6), Sigur Jawara and Nick Stampley converted all 10 free throws in the second period to make it 36:34 (19th). The Uni Baskets had definitely found their rhythm, but it was only successful in the zone. The threesome didn’t fall any further. Jasper Günther made it 42:39 before the break with a fast break. The second quarter was offensive, tied at 25:25 and fulfilled the expectations of a top game.

0:17 run across halftime
After the break, Trier scored at will and set the hall on fire. The guests completely missed the start of the second half. They swallowed a 0:17 run across quarters and fell into an almost hopeless 20-point deficit early on (59:39, 24th). There weren’t enough stops or rebounds on defense to make the game even more exciting. The guests rebelled once and reduced the lead to 61:47 after only their fourth long-range goal in 17 throw attempts. Another three from Jasper Günther did nothing to change the 14-point deficit before the shooting quarter: 70:56
Trier dominance
The big comeback like in Bochum failed to materialize. The Trier team had entered the game with a lot of respect for the Uni Baskets, but had long since taken over total dominance of the unequal duel through their physicality. It was obvious that the Uni Baskets were unable to counter this for long periods of the game, including in the final quarter. Münster didn’t move the ball enough and got bogged down in individual actions. Weitzel corrected the sobering result slightly with four points in a row to make it 86:64. Three out of four quarters clearly went to the people of Moselle.

Top game after the international break
For the Uni Baskets, the game in Trier was the last before the international break. On the Saturday after next, the second in the table faces the next difficult test: the fourth-placed Kirchheim Knights with ex-Münster player James Graham will be guests in the Berg Fidel hall for the top game.
