A new residence is emerging on the side of the town center of Eysines, along the Avenue de Picot, a stone’s throw from the central tram station. Rising over three levels, this building is built by Aquitanis. It offers 14 social rental housing units (ten T2s and four T3s), including five in PLAI (supported rental integration loan) intended for families in financially fragile situations.

“We worked a lot with the architect (Aldebert Verdier group). We didn’t want an envelope that was too modern compared to the city centre. The aim was to go closer to the shops on Avenue de la Libération, hence the choice of stone facade. As for the forest, it will remember the spirit of the barns and sheds,” explains Évelyne Frénais, assistant for urban planning and heritage.

The elected official specifies that she brought together local residents before applying for a building permit to showcase the project. “We also spoke to the architect of Bâtiments de France who expressed no doubts,” she said. This conversation is explained by the presence of the nearby noble house Bois Salut, listed in the supplementary register of historical monuments for its stone spiral staircase tower and ornate doorway.This heritage element houses the House of Economy, Employment and Industry (M3E).

In relation to this region, the residence is also known as Bois Salut. In addition to the building, the tenant will rent three commercial buildings located on the ground floor. Who will settle? Too early to tell. But again, this is a challenging situation. “We have been working for twenty years with the Metropolis to revitalize the town with local businesses (bakery, restaurant, independent book store, etc.) and artistic artisans. We want to continue on this path, with activities that generate flow and life. Knowing that the city is the most densely populated place in the city,” reveals Évelyne Frénais. Delivery of the residence is scheduled for summer 2025.
