According to Italian laws, they are seen as “movable property” and, therefore, are under the responsibility of people or entities. This means that their care is also up to the administration. And first of all, a problem that is sometimes not a small one, you have to find veterinarians willing to work in agreement. And this is what the Unione Valli e Delizie is trying to do, which has published a notice of expression of interest aimed at veterinarians for the care of ownerless cats, for a period of three years.
In particular, you are asked to carry out, in case of particular needs or requests from the Union, interventions sterilization of colony cats, or of any other public shelter facilities that may be created on the territory of the Union. We will also need to contribute to veterinary care for cats belonging to the registered cat colonies or to any other public shelter facilities that may be created in the territory of the Union and guarantee, possibly with the collaboration of a specialized clinic, the veterinary service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for cats without an owner. In the case of a stray but owned animal, the costs for intervention on injured cats must be fully borne by the owner himself. Finally, veterinarians will have to carry out awareness and communication activities in the area and in particular towards the colony representatives, also conveying any communication material.
The notice is aimed at veterinary doctors in possession of suitable requirements and adequate knowledge and professional experience in the activity of triage, surgery, medication management and them distributionwith specific skills in treatment of cats. This professional must have the availability of a clinic (own or made available by another veterinary doctor) located within a radius of 40 kilometers from the headquarters of the Portomaggiore Union Piazza Umberto I, 5. All expenses relating to the use of the clinic are borne by the professional in charge. The professional will have to guarantee the service in case of prolonged absences due to holidays or illness, arranging for his temporary replacement with qualified personnel of equal competence and guaranteeing, possibly also with the collaboration of a specialized clinic, the veterinary service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for ownerless accident cats found in the territories. For carrying out the activities, the Union will recognize a maximum reimbursement of 15 thousand euros per year. The expected reimbursement, equally divided between the three Municipalities, can be divided annually as follows: maximum 40% for sterilizations; a maximum of 30% for the care of colony cats and at least 30% for medical assistance for cats with accidents.
