Lower blood sugar with small lifestyle changes: An innovative app makes it possible and shows impressive study results.
In Germany, an estimated one in ten adults is affected by type 2 diabetes, and forecasts point to an increase: experts predict that cases could increase by 59 percent by 2040, partly due to increasing life expectancy. The disease can lead to serious complications that affect the heart, kidneys, nerves, eyes and blood vessels. People with type 2 diabetes have a significantly increased risk of having a heart attack or stroke.
It is possible that people with type 2 diabetes can effectively lower their blood sugar and weight through small lifestyle changes without relying on medication. A new digital health application (DiGA), which is reimbursed by all statutory health insurance companies on prescription, supports this.

The health app glucura helps to significantly reduce blood sugar and weight and successfully control diabetes. Particularly innovative is the use of a sensor and artificial intelligence to analyze and even predict personal blood sugar reactions. Diabetes patients receive individual nutritional tips that keep blood sugar levels stable in the long term and at the same time preserve the enjoyment of food. The application also contains exercise recommendations, delicious recipes, informative therapy content and motivating impulses.

Defeating diabetes: Study reveals impressive successes
The study with 118 test subjects in which the diabetes app was used showed impressive results: the participating people with type 2 diabetes achieved normal blood sugar levels thanks to the digital application. Sugar levels (HbA1c) fell on average by 0.67 percent and body weight by 3.5 kilograms. The quality of life also improved significantly. After three months, a third of the participants had such good results that diabetes was reduced to normal blood sugar levels (
The successes were particularly notable for people with high initial values - with an average reduction of 1.08 percent in HbA1c value and four kilograms in body weight. The “app based on sensors and artificial intelligence provides support so effectively that many sufferers can even beat their diabetes,” says a press release from the developers.
Long-term data shows even greater success: After six months, users’ weight dropped on average by almost seven kilograms and for some by up to 26 kilograms. According to the study, the method was used on average 5.4 days per week. Many of the patients want to continue using it permanently as part of their therapy.
