Police have identified 45 suspects for violence around Ajax

Police in Amsterdam last week

NOS newstoday, 12:36

The police have 45 suspects in the picture for committing crimes around the Ajax – Maccabi Tel Aviv match on November 7. Nine of them, all with Dutch nationality, are already in pre-trial detention. Chief of Police Janny Knol announced this in the TV program Outside the court.

Based on, among other things, the analysis of a large number of films, the police expect that the number of suspects will continue to increase.

Knol said that the police are investigating all crimes committed around the game. “No matter who committed the crime or who was the victim.”

A long day

The police chief called it a “labor intensive job” to identify, track down and arrest suspects. The police have deployed a large team of more than a hundred people in various teams and specialties to track down the suspects.

In addition to several investigation teams, experts in the field of operations, terrorism and radicalization and international legal assistance were called in. Experts from forensic and digital analysis are also involved.

The police and the Public Prosecution Service assembled the team on Friday, November 8. Knol said the days are long. “I see a great drive to achieve results. I’m proud of that and I’m also concerned. It’s a very intense time for all police colleagues.”

Dropping pictures

Last week, images of five suspects were leaked. Two of them turned themselves in to police, and recognizable images of the other three suspects were released on Friday released.

Photos are always shared internally among police personnel. If this does not lead to recognition, they will also be made public. This prevents the privacy of suspects from being unnecessarily damaged. This procedure will continue in the near future, the police say.
