More than 3,000 evacuated as a preventive measure in the face of the red alert due to the passage of a new Isolated Depression at High Levels (DANA) that threatens intense rains in Malaga and the south of Tarragona, this Wednesday, November 13.
The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) raised the alarm for both locations, where the roads are severely affected. In addition, the Generalitat Valenciana demanded to reduce traffic due to the damage.
The constant showers have affected the infrastructure of health care homes, shopping centers and homes. Furthermore, they have flooded. streets and forced the closure of the capital’s Clinical Hospital. The city was left without a rail connection, because the high-speed service (AVE) between Malaga and Madrid was suspended due to the flood.
Torrential rains forced residents to move to safer areas and suspend services. These new floods occurred just two weeks after the country experienced serious flooding in Valencia.
The AEMET activated the red alert for the regions of Andalusia and Catalonia, and reports indicated that several roads are impassable. In Malaga, 100 millimeters of rain were reported in just one hour, which is equivalent to four inches of water.
The Mayor of Malaga, Francisco de la Torre Prados, ordered the evacuation near the Campanillas River, where the railway system that connects this city with Madrid was suspended due to the damage.
