the therapies of over a thousand patients are at risk

PADOVA – There are 13 professionals from Ulss 6, with around a thousand people in their care, who risk not having their employment contracts renewed. We talk about 12 psychologists e 1 psychiatric rehabilitation technicianhired on fixed-term contracts, who provide services to people with mental health problems of all ages. Six associations of family members and others from the province (Aitsam, Aifa Aps, Alice Dca, Minerva, Progetto Itaca and Psiche2000) met on Friday, 15 November, to discuss and denounce the precarious healthcare situation.
«In the last two years the request for treatment in the 18-24 age group has increased by 25% – we read in the note from the associations -. In the same age group there was an increase of more than 200% in those identified as serious personality disorders. The Department of Mental Health of Ulss 6 has so far faced the situation also thanks to the staff included by hiring 13 professionals with fixed-term contracts renewed year after year. The contribution of these staff allowed a 44% increase in psychological care. From what we have learned, all this could fail due to non-renewal. Group and individual therapies will therefore be interrupted, with serious damage to the mental health of them and their loved ones.”
