A Viennese homeowner has his property renovated. Construction workers noticed a strange rope on the ground. However, it was ignored for a long time.
Only when an installer visited the construction site did he try to pull the rope out of the ground. When he couldn’t do it, he grabbed a shovel and tried to dig it up. He came across a metal box that had previously been set in concrete.
30 kilograms of gold coins
When he was able to bring the treasure chest to the surface and forcefully opened it, he found coins made of pure gold inside. The find apparently weighs around 30 kilograms without the chest and is said to be worth around 2.3 million euros, writes Today.at.
«I have been on the construction site since I was 15 years old. Every now and then you find the occasional coin, but a discovery like this is incredible,” Armin, one of the construction workers who was on site during the discovery, told Today.at.
As the newspaper writes, the finder of the treasure would be legally entitled to half of the finder’s fee. The other half would therefore go to the landowner. As a chance archaeological find, the discovery must be reported to the police. What happens next is still unclear.
