What does it matter to us parents?” – Duchy directly

Schwarzenbek (pm). On November 11, 2024, media trainer and podcaster Moritz Becker entertained the audience in the Schwarzenbek high school with an entertaining lecture on the subject of media education. An event that was offered jointly by the high school and TSV Schwarzenbek. With the help of funding, the lecture could be offered free of charge to anyone interested.

With over 270 participants, Moritz Becker’s lecture was a complete success. For two hours, the qualified social worker and certified parent media trainer captivated the audience with his refreshing and practical manner. Becker managed to present complex topics such as social media, cyberbullying and the use of platforms such as WhatsApp, Instagram and TikTok in an easy-to-understand manner also include humorous anecdotes.

At the beginning he presented the challenge that parents, grandparents and everyone who works with children and young people have to face: their own childhood was shaped by analogue experiences, while today’s young people are growing up in a digitally networked world. “How are we supposed to be role models in the use of media if we ourselves grew up without these technologies?” Becker asked and at the same time provided numerous examples that provide guidance for parents and guardians.

The participants gained valuable insights into the world of young people, some of whom receive over 1,500 messages a day on their smartphones. Why do young people seemingly share private experiences on Instagram or spend hours on TikTok without hesitation? Moritz Becker answered these questions clearly and gave practical tips on how to react as an adult in order to recognize problematic developments such as cyberbullying at an early stage and to support children.

The practical impulses and Becker’s understandable, sometimes thoughtful, but always entertaining presentation style were particularly positively highlighted. Many parents and grandparents felt picked up and were able to take home new arguments and approaches for media education.
